NicMakesPlays Fearsomes (LoR Deck)

Deck Code: CECAOAIFBYIBMJZPGU4ACAIDB4BQGBIDAUGQCBQFDQAQEAYFAQDAA

[See NicMakesPlays Fearsomes deck details]

Goal of Deck and Mulligans

The goal of this deck is to deal tons of damage in the early game through the Fearsome keyword and then finish off the game with a leveled Nocturne. The expected turn to win the game with this deck is turns 6-7.

In this deck, you want to mulligan for a Fearsome for turns 2 and 3. If you already have a Fearsome for both of those turns, then you can mulligan for a 1 drop, Wraithcaller or Nocturne.

Mark of the Isles is great in this deck in case you miss your 1 drop, you can bank 1 spell mana for it later. If you are attacking on turn 3, then you can hold Stygian Onlooker for his Nightfall effect that turn.

NicMakesPlays Fearsomes (LoR Mulligan)

Precious Pet / Stygian Onlooker

stygian onlooker jpg

Precious Pet and Stygian Onlooker are two of your 1 drops in the deck. Precious Pet is your Noxus splash and allows you to start applying pressure early which benefits aggro decks.

This card also is generically good as a cheap Fearsome, helps level Elise, and benefits off Frenzied Skitterer. Stygian Onlooker is both a Nightfall unit and a Fearsome unit. You can save this card for its Nightfall effect to turn it into a 4|1 Fearsome unit for only 1 mana. Stygian also levels Nocturne when it attacks afterward since it’s a Nightfall unit.

Phantom Butler / Mistwraith

phantom butler lor cardMistwraith (LoR Card)

Phantom Butler is an extremely powerful 2 drop in this deck. First off, it’s a Fearsome so you can apply aggro pressure. Phantom Butler is also great at trading. Often times your opponent will play a 3 attack unit to block your Fearsomes, so you can lead with Phantom Butler.

If they block the Phantom Butler then the Hallowed keyword will buff your units the rest of the game, if they don’t block it then they take 3 damage. This makes Phantom Butler the correct unit to summon often in the early game since it trades the best out of your 2 drops.

Mistwraith is another 2 drop Fearsome in the deck and also one of the stars of the show. Mistwraiths buff other Mistwraiths everywhere when summoned, which can be done frequently throughout the game.

Mistwraiths themselves buff each other when summoned, Wraithcallers summon a Mistwraith as well, and you can find multiple Mistwraiths off of Stalking Shadows. Mistwraiths can easily get to 5+ attack damage in the late game, which packs a punch when combined with Fearsome.

 Elise / Nocturne

Elise level 1 (LoR Card)Nocturne 1 (LoR Card)

Elise and Nocturne are your Champions of the deck. Elise is the best 2 drop Fearsome in the deck. She has 3 health which is great for the early game and also summons a Spiderling whenever she attacks.

In the early game, Spiderlings can get massive value by whittling away the enemy’s health when they block, or even trading against decks that have 1 health unit. If they don’t deal with Elise she will continue to summon Spiderlings and get free value.

Elise can also level easily due to the addition of Precious Pet, and turn all your Spiders into Fearsome units with Challenger. This can either deal tons of damage or act as removal. Nocturne just got a huge buff and is why this deck is on a resurgence.

Nocturne now also levels when Fearsome units attack. This entire deck is based around attacking with Fearsome units so you can level him as early as turn 4. His level 1 form can give Vulnerable to an enemy Fearsome blocker to hook them out of the way, then -1|0 all other enemies for a huge Fearsome swing.

His leveled form can be used both offensively and defensively. Offensively you can summon units to lower the enemy blockers out of Fearsome range and go for game. Defensively, you can summon units to weaken the enemy’s attack.

Stalking Shadows / Doombeast

Stalking Shadows (LoR card nerfed)Doombeast (LoR card)

Stalking Shadows is your refuel of the deck and Doombeast is your reach. Stalking Shadows allows you to replenish your hand full of Fearsome units. You can get Doombeast to do burn damage, Stygian Onlookers to push damage for cheap, or Mistwraiths to buff each other.

Doombeast gives your deck burn reach after your opponent stabilizes and you need the finishing damage. You can duplicate Doombeast with Stalking Shadows and Fading Memories for more burn damage.

Fading Memories / Risen Mist

fading memories jpgRisen Mists (LoR Card)

Fading Memories and Risen Mists are two spells in the deck that give you a ton of utility. Fading Memories let’s you duplicate key units such as Skitterer to stop Fearsome blockers, Doombeast for Burn reach, and Mistwraith/Wraithcaller to buff your Mistwraiths.

Risen Mists allows you to go for huge damage with Burst speed open attacks. You can use Risen Mist as your first action to summon a Mistwraith and attack before your opponent can play a blocker. This is another way to easily finish the game.

Good Matchups

This deck has a great matchup against without many Fearsome blockers in the early game. You can keep your aggro pressure up by summoning Precious Pet on one and other Fearsome units on turn 2 and turn 3.

Mark of the Isles is great at protecting your units to push damage through removal. You can finish the game by going wider than them with Wraithcaller or weakening their board with Nocturne.

Bad Matchups

Hard matchups are decks with tons of Fearsome blockers such as Daybreak. Most Daybreak gain stat buffs or stun when they are the first card summoned each turn.

To play around with this you want to set up huge boards, then open attack as your first action before they can use a Daybreak effect.

Tech Choices

This deck can cut copies of Cithria, Relentless Pursuit, or Wandering Shepherd

Unto Dusk – This card gives you both draw power and the ability to activate Nightfall effects again.

Unto Dusk (LoR Card)

Boisterous Host – This card is another great one-drop that reliably allows you to mulligan for aggressive openings.

The Harrowing – This card gives you a top-end bomb that can win you the game when you run out of steam.
The Harrowing (LoR Card)

Domination Impressions LoR Spoilers Day 3: Ionia and Piltover/Zaun Variety

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here. Today we got a batch of Ionia and PNZ cards from the new set.

I’m going to go over the cards today and my predicted viability of them.

To see the rest of the Domination reveals, head to our Spoiler page where they’ll be revealed each day until its official release.

If you’d like to see our expert breakdowns for the cards, check out the rest of our reveal articles.

The Witness

the witness

This card is amazing at being disruption and a 3/3 blocker for cheap. On offensive turns you can use spells to push and activate Flow. Then on your opponent’s turn you can play it to ruin their attack token/plays. This card is essentially an Ionian Arachnoid Sentry with an extra health.

Dragoncaller

dragoncaller

Dragoncaller is a bit expensive although it does have a powerful effect. If you can continuously activate Flow each turn you get an Ephemeral 6/5 Elusive attacker on offensive, and one to block with on defense. The issue is in later turns Ionia usually has stronger strategies such as winning the game with a leveled Lee Sin or Karma. Ionia is also mostly good against removal and Dragoncaller gives them a good target for removal that isn’t proactive or winning them the game.

The Spirit of Wuju

the spirit of wuju

The Spirit of Wuju is a solid card to continue refueling your hand with spells while maintaining board presence. The ability to have a blocker for defense, and add a spell to your hand is very valuable for midrange Ionia decks such as ones that involve Viktor.

Viktor gives you cheap 0 mana spells and is a bit more unit based than other Ionia decks. This makes Spirit of the Wuju perfect for decks such as Viktor Karma or Viktor Lee.

Unworthy Soul

unworthy soul

Unworthy Soul gives Ionia yet another Recall spell for opposing Units or Landmarks. In the past cards such as Will of Ionia were in the best decks in the game, and currently Homecoming has been in the best decks in the game for multiple seasons such as Ahri Kennen and Nami Lee Sin.

Unworthy Soul is just a new take on these cards and is likely to be great if history repeats itself. Flow makes Unworthy Soul cost 2 less and it also destroys attachments before it does so. This card has both the bonus of potentially being cheaper than Will of Ionia/Homecoming and destroying attachments such as Equipment for certain metas.

The Darkin Harp

the darkin harp

The Darkin Harp can either give a unit +2/0 and Quick Attack or turn itself into Stryaatu. +2/0 and Quick Attack is great in PNZ for units such as Flame Chompers to rack up quick kills in the early game. Straatu is a strong 8/6 Quick Attack unit that can help you refuel and discount your hand in the late game.

stryraatu

The fact that Darkin Harp can be versatile as utility in the early game or late game makes it great because it’s consistently reliable. This card will shine particularly in decks that involve Flame Chompers such as Jinx Lulu.

Zaun Bouncer

zaun bouncer

Zaun Bouncer is perfect for Viktor decks to continuously refuel spell mana. Viktor’s Hexcore Upgrades cost 0 so you are able to reliably activate Flow.

While Viktor becomes a threat over time, you can use Zaun Bouncer to give you extra spell mana and interrupt the enemy strategy.

Bonus Deck: Harp Jinx Lulu

stryraatu

Deck code: CECQCAYECIBAGAQCCECQCBAMBUTSQLIBAQCBAAICAQBQIAQBAQARYAIGAQEACAICBQAQGAQKAA

[See Harp Jinx Lulu deck details]

Jinx Lulu is perfect at using the new Equipment, The Darkin Harp. Jinx Lulu is a deck centered around buffing Flame Chompers to get easy kills in the early game and create board control. You can buff Flame Chompers with The Darkin Harp to give it Quick Attack so it can continuously rack-up kills throughout the game.

Boom Baboon gives you extra copies of Flame Chompers as well. After you dump your hand you can use Jinx or summon Styraatu from the Darkin Harp to refuel!

How to Play Lulu Poppy

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here.

Today I’m going to go over a deck I made that climbed 350 lp at a 88% winrate in Masters, Poppy Lulu!

NicMakesPlays Lulu Poppy (LoR Deck)

Deck Code: CEDACBQKDIBACAAVDUBAKAAKBQBQKCRJOTVQCAIDAIBACBAAAICACAQAA4BACAAJGMAQGAAOAEDASBAA

[Lulu Poppy deck details]

Goal of Deck and Mulligans

This deck utilizes Bandle City Mayor to allow you to swarm with a ton of units.

After this, you summon Poppy or Lulu to output huge pressure.

When your opponent is low on blockers you can use Rally or Yordles in Arms to win the game.

NicMakesPlays Rank #1 Poppy Lulu (LoR Mulligan)

In this deck, you want to mulligan differently going first or second. In this deck, you want to mulligan for a Challenger + Lulu. If your Challenger is Fleetracker then you can also mulligan for a 2 drop such as Yordle Smith or Durand Sculptor.

The main difference is you keep Poppy when going second but not going first because you can attack with her on turn 4.

Card Choices & Key Synergies

Fleetfeather Tracker / Byrd, the Bellringer

fleetfeather tracker jpgbyrd the bellringer lor card

Fleetfeather Tracker and Byrd, the Bellringer are your 1 drops of the deck. Fleetfeather Tracker is a 2|1 that becomes a Challenger when you play another ally.

You want to play this on turn 1 and then save it to be combined with Lulu, Yordle Smith, or Brightsteel Protector to get free combat trades with its Challenger. Byrd, the Bellringer is your other one drop.

You can play it on one and utilize the Chime it gives in the early game to summon strong units and gain board control. For example, a 4|4 Lulu can single-handedly win you the early game by being stronger than all your opponent’s units in the first three turns.

Yordle Smith / Petricite Broadwing

Yordle Smith (LoR Card)petricite broadwing (lor card)

Yordle Smith is one of the most important cards in this deck and part of what makes it so strong. The deck revolves around making wide boards with Challengers to create huge combat swings, and Yordle Smith gives them all Quick Attack.

You can use Lulu to buff Yordle Smith and give your whole board Quick Attack so they have no good blockers and take huge damage or lose units in the process. You can also combine Yordle Smith with Challengers to get free kills and weaken their board.

Petricite Broadwing is another Challenger for the deck that combines well with Yordle Smith, Lulu, and Poppy. You can continuously buff Petricite Broadwing to break down the enemy board throughout the game with its Challenger.

Lulu / Poppy

Lulu level 1 (LoR Card)Poppy level 1 (LoR Card)

Lulu and Poppy are your Champions of the deck. Lulu is the main card of the deck because she can swing the game heavily in your favor on turn 3.

You can combine her with Challengers to generate free kills and get ahead on board. You can also combine her with Yordle Smith so your whole board gets Quick Attack and they have to either take huge damage or lose units in the process by blocking.

You want to use the Challenger units to hook what can block Lulu so she can stay alive and continue to use her ability to gain your advantage.

Poppy is strong in this deck to buff wide boards and make your units deal more damage and be harder to kill. Even one swing with Poppy can make a board so powerful that you outright win the game. Both of these Champions are multi-region so they are discounted by Bandle City Mayor and combine well with Rallies since they get effects when they attack.

Bandle City Mayor / Wandering Shepherd

bandle city mayor (lor card)wandering shepherd lor card

Bandle City Mayor recently got buffed to a 2|3 and buffs all your multi-region units such as Lulu, Poppy, and Wandering Shepherd. With the addition of Weaponmasters, Bandle City Mayor has more strong cards in the pool to generate when played.

Lulu and Poppy are already incredibly strong units and become even stronger when discounted by 1. Bandle City Mayor serves multiple roles because it can cause pressure through its discounts, or give you refuel through its unit creation.

Wandering Shepherd is a Weaponmaster that is also discounted by Bandle City Mayor. You can use her to Improve on units such as Poppy, Yordle Smith, or Challengers that benefit from having an extra attack.

The Weapons also go to your hand when the units die which gives your deck more longevity and grind game.

Golden Aegis / Relentless Pursuit

Golden Aegis (LoR reveal)relentless pursuit jpg

Golden Aegis and Relentless Pursuit are your Rally spells and how you regularly end the game. Both of these spells combine well with Lulu, Poppy, and Challengers because they all benefit greatly from having the attack token to activate their effects.

Golden Aegis gives a unit Barrier, you can put this on your Champs to keep them alive when they attack or put them on Challengers for free unit removal. Relentless Pursuit buffs a unit +1|+1 and Rallies.

You can buff Poppy or Yordle Smith with this to make sure they are stronger than your board so they can use their buff effects when they attack.

Good Matchups

This deck can run through slower decks such as Targon’s Peak and Viktor Lee Sin. You want to open a strong curve when your key units such as Challengers + Lulu/Poppy/Yordle Smith.

You can freely put on tons of damage since they don’t run many units, and use your Challengers to clear the ones they do summon. When the time is right you can Rally while they’re setting up and finish the game early.

Bad Matchups

This deck can struggle against decks with Shadow Isle removal spells such as Evelynn Viego and Heimer Norra. Cards such as Ranger’s Resolve and Durand Sculptor help your units live through their Hate Spike + Vile Feasts.

Quietus is a really strong card against this deck since it can remove units such as Poppy and Yordle Smith. You can use Sharpsight against Quietus to buff your unit to 3 attacks so it lives against Quietus.

Tech Choices

This deck can cut copies of Cithria, Relentless Pursuit, or Wandering Shepherd

Combat Cook – Combat Cook is a strong Weaponmaster that is also discounted by Bandle City Mayor.

combat cook lor card

Pokey Stick– Pokey Stick gives both interaction and refuel which can help greatly against decks that have 1 health units such as Pirate Aggro.

Pokey Stick (LoR Card)

Riposte – This card can help clear stronger stated units and ensure your key cards like Poppy and Lulu live and win their combat trades.

Riposte (LoR Card)

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here.

Today I’m going to go over what I think is the best deck for the new LoR exclusive champ, Norra!

Norra Lulu (LoR Deck)

Deck Code: CEDACAYECIBQMCQPDIWQKAIEBQOCOLJUAECAIEACAUFHRJQBAEBQEAQAAEAQKCUIAE

[See Norra Lulu deck details]

Goal of Deck and Mulligans

The goal of this deck is to swarm the field with created units such as Flame Chompers/Jury Rig. You can summon these for free by discarding them with Poro Cannon, you can buff them with Lulu for huge pressure and they also level Norra along the way.

The expected turn to win the game with this deck is turn 6-7 with Sneezy Biggledust.

Norra Lulu (LoR Mulligan)

In this deck, you want to mulligan for Lulu + Flame Chompers, and a way to discard the Flame Chompers such as Poro Cannon. This allows you to use Lulu to buff the Flame Chompers to a 4|4 Challenger and take control of the game early.

You can also keep Norra if you are attacking on turn 2 since she either creates a Mysterious Portal on your top 4 cards or forces removal.

Zaunite Urchin / Poro Cannon

Zaunite Urchin (LoR Card)Poro Cannon (LoR card reveal)

Zaunite Urchin and Poro Cannon are both cheap discard outlets. Zaunite Urchin can discard Flame Chompers to help level Norra, combo with Lulu, let you refuel, and give you an easy +1 in card advantage.

Poro Cannon discards Flame Chompers/Jury Rig as well and gives you two more created units. Discarding a Flame Chompers/Jury Rig fills up half of Norra’s level up condition for only 2 mana!

Boom Baboon / Flame Chompers

Boom Baboon (LoR card) Flame Chompers! (LoR Card)

Boom Baboon gives you extra copies of Flame Chompers to combo with. Flame Chompers has tons of roles in this deck. Flame Chompers gives you free fodder for discard effects, can combo with Lulu to become a 4|4 Challenger for removal and it levels Norra.

By running 3 copies of Boom Baboon and 3 copies of Flame Chompers you are maxing out your odds of winning the early game with Lulu + Chompers and quickly leveling Norra in the process.

Norra / Lulu

norra level 1 lor cardLulu level 1 (LoR Card)

Norra passively levels in the deck and then gives you a huge reward for it. Norra can attempt to swing as a 1/2 that puts Mysterious Portals in your deck if you have the attack token on turn 2.

Outside of Mystic Shot, many decks don’t have answers to this on turn 2 so that’s an easy way to get Mysterious Portals in your deck. Norra passively levels in the deck throughout the game when you summon units such as Jury Rig, Flame Chompers, and Daring Poros.

When leveled she summons cost followers instead which gives you a huge payoff. Lulu can buff Flame Chompers to remove units in the early game, and buff Elusive units such as Norra or Daring Poro to go for game.

Mystic Shot / Get Excited

Mystic Shot (LoR card)get excited! jpg

Mystic Shot and Get Excited both double as burn damage and removal. Mystic shot is a simple deal 2 for 2 mana. You can use this against common cards in the meta such as Jax, Katarina and Akshan.

Get Excited deals one more damage but also allows you to discard cards such as Jury Rig and Flame Chompers. Often times having the one extra damage from Get Excited is make or break.

Yordle Captain / Sneezy Biggledust

Yordle Captain (lor card)sneezy biggledust lor card

Yordle Captain and Sneezy Biggledust are two of your win cons in the deck. Yordle Captain allows you to buff all your units for a huge push and be more resilient to removal.

A lot of units in this deck such as Flame Chompers and Jury Rig can be summoned for free when discarded, so the turn Yordle Captain comes down is a huge tempo swing.

Sneezy Biggledust buffs your board when you are 6 wide to go for game. A plethora of units in this deck are created such as Flame Chompers, Jury Rig and Daring Poro’s so you can easily reap the +2|+2 buff.

Good Matchups

Good matchups for this deck are decks that can’t deal with early-game pressure. You regularly want to mulligan for Flame Chompers + Lulu to control the early game with the 4|4 Challenger.

If you are attacking on turn 2 then you can keep Norra in your mulligan as well to try and Nexus Strike and put Mysterious Portals in your deck.

Bad Matchups

This deck can struggle against Pirates since Miss Fortune and Make it Rain can clear a lot of your early game. Step 1 is to make sure you have a blocker for turn 1 so you don’t fall behind in tempo/Nexus health.

Step 2 is try and get Flame Chompers + Lulu together to gain board control. After that, you want to make sure you maintain board control while staying out of burn range.

Tech Choices

This deck can cut copies of Scrapheap, Byrd, and Jury Rig.

Groupshot – This card is great at dealing with early-game Aggro units to get ahead on board.

group shot (lor card)

Forge Chief – An alternative one drop to Byrd which can help get you ahead in spell mana.

forge chief (lor card resized)

Electro Harpoon – This card can act as removal, a discard outlet, and burn damage so it’s extremely versatile.

Electro Harpoon (LoR Card)

Awakening Impressions LoR Spoilers Day 13: Ornn

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here.

Today I’m going to go over Ornn, the newest Freljord champion, and his reveal cards!

To see the rest of the Awakening reveals, head to our Spoiler page where they’ll be revealed each day until its official release.

If you’d like to see our expert breakdowns for the cards, check out the rest of our reveal articles.

Ornn

ornn level 1 lor card

Ornn is the final Champion revealed for this expansion and a great one to wrap it up with. Ornn is a powerhouse top end that rewards the player for stacking equipments on a unit.

You can beef up a unit with Equipments, have Ornn copy that unit’s Equipments, and then attack and have him Forge twice for an easy level up.

ornn level 2 lor card

When Ornn is leveled up he packs even more damage by summoning a Spirit of the Ram with powerful stats. Ornn is the payoff Equipment decks needed to close out a game. Ornn has great synergy with Jax.

spirit of the ram lor card

They both revolve around the new Equipment mechanic. Jax and his package can help in the early game and then Ornn can be the win con in the late game. Alternatively, Concurrent Timelines decks with Improvise can work well with Ornn too.

Bellows Breath

ornn's bellows breath lor card

bellows breath lor card

Bellows Breath is both simultaneously a buff and AoE removal, while also being Ornn’s Champ Spell. Bellows Breath is certainly a meta-dependent card. If Aggro or tons of Swarm decks are in the meta with 1-2 health units then this card is great.

It’s similar to Avalanche but costs 1 more mana and Forge’s which can potentially buff your Equipment.

If the meta is more control or midrange oriented with higher health units than Bellows Breath can be low impact for 5 cost. I wouldn’t main it quite yet until the meta settles, but I’d keep it on your radar for answers to Aggro.

Ornn’s Forge

ornn's forge lor card

Ornn’s Forge is a great way to stack up Forge triggers to buff your Equipments. Equipments have the unique ability to go back to hand when the unit Equipped dies. If you can start enough Forge’s fast then your Equipments will be buffed the entire game and your opponent won’t be able to keep up with the stats they bring.

With that being said, this card can be a bit slow and may not be able to keep up with your opponents faster pacing. This could be a solid 1-2 of to give value each turn over time.

Wrought Colossus

wrought colossus lor card

Wrought Colossus can be used as yet another game closer that gives you value out of your Equipments. Unfortunately, Wrought Colossus is a bit slow. Creating copies of itself and spending 8 more mana to play them takes time and a lot of mana.

Ornn can fit the role as a game closer but does it a turn earlier and in a much quicker fashion. The one perk of Wrought Colossus is he gives an amazing grind game by generating tons of late-game bombs each turn. Overall, I wouldn’t main him unless the meta proves to be slow and grindy.

His origin allows you to build his deck with any Weaponmaster card, as well as equipping him with The Light of Icathia when the game starts. The purpose of Light of Icathia is that he counts himself as an Equipped unit for his level up/other card effects.

grandmaster at arms lor card

Light of Icathia also gives Jax Overwhelm when he hits level 2. Also if leveled Jax dies, it goes back to your hand which can give another unit Overwhelm.

At first Jax is just a 3/2 for 2 but he can level up quickly. Jax levels up when Equipped allies have struck for 15+ damage.

jax level 2 lor card

The first thing to note is he doesn’t have to see the damage being dealt, so he can level up in the deck.

When he’s leveled and attacks he gains +1/+1 for each ally that was Equipped this round. This can push huge damage since his Light of Icathia gives him Overwhelm.

Jax’s Counterstrike

jax's counter strike lor card

Jax’s Counterstrike is Jax’s Champ spell. For 3 mana this spell gives Jax Barrier and Forge’s him at burst speed.

Currently, we don’t know what Forge does, but giving Barrier for 3 mana already sounds pretty good. This card is directly comparable to Prismatic Barrier, and assuming Forge is an upside then it will be even better.

Sharesies

sharesies lor card

Sharesies is a great way to double up your Equipment bonuses and push for huge damage.

You can use Sharesies to spread Overwhelm and powerful statlines amongst your board.

This is also a great way to transfer your Equipment to other units.

Entrancing Lure

entrancing lure lor card

Entrancing Lure can be both removal and refuel. Entrancing Lure gives a unit Challenger for the round so you can easily remove enemy threats once your enemies are beefed up from Equipments. If you use Entrancing Lure on an Equipped unit then you also draw a card, which will be a regular use for this card.

Equipping units first and then using Entrancing Lure gives you the most value out of this card due to easy combat trades and it draws you an extra card.

Awakening Impressions LoR Spoilers Day 7: Norra

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here.

Today I’m going over the first-ever LoR exclusive champion and her supporting cards, Norra!

To see the rest of the Awakening reveals, head to our Spoiler page where they’ll be revealed each day until its official release.

If you’d like to see our expert breakdowns for the cards, check out the rest of our reveal articles.

Norra

norra level 1 lor card

Norra is a 2 mana 1/2 Elusive that when strikes the Nexus creates a Mysterious Portal in the top 4 cards of your deck. She is then leveled up when you’ve summoned 6+ created allies. An easy first pair for this deck is the Poro Cannon + Boom Baboon package.

Discarding Flame Chompers for Poro Cannon, and then summoning the two Daring Poro’s already completes half of her level up condition. You can apply pressure with Lulu + Flame Chomper openings while leveling up Norra in the process.

norra level 2 lor card

When Norra is leveled up, Mysterious Portals summon 4-7 cost units instead of 2 or 3 cost units. This can give the Aggro Bandle + Pnz discard some longevity for the mid and late game.

Portalpalooza

portalpalooza lor card

norra's portalpalooza lor card

Portalpalooza is an easy way to load Mysterious Portals in your deck and is also Norra’s Champ Spell. Before Norra is leveled the price is a bit steep, but after Norra is leveled is where this card really shines.

After Norra is leveled your Mysterious Portals summon 4-7 cost units so you can wait until she’s leveled, and then use Portalpalooza to reap the rewards. I don’t think you main deck this card, but it’s a great Champ Spell since it has amazing synergy with her leveled up form.

Realm’s Caretaker

realm's caretaker lor card

Realm’s Caretaker gives payoff for activating your Mysterious Portals as well as other Traps/Boons.

One cool thing this card can do is make extra use of Teemo/Nora together in the same deck since it gives Realm’s Caretaker multiple ways to activate. Overall, I’d say this card won’t see play and is outclassed by Yordle Captain.

Living Library

living library lor card

Living Library is an Elusive, gives payoff for activating Boons/Traps and can be played in multiple decks. In a Norra/Teemo deck this can easily be achieved and gives you refuel + elusive pressure.

You could play this in pure Puffcaps just for more Elusive pressure and refuel as well. This can even be splashed in Bard decks to buff his stats once you get the Chimes rolling. I’m not sure if this card will make the cut, but it is a consideration in any deck with Boons/Traps.

Eclectic Collection

eclectic collection lor card

Eclectic Collection gives huge payoff for Bandle Swarm decks. If you are able to go wide then you can easily buff your deck with tons of Mysterious Portals/Chimes while hurting your opponents with Puffcaps/Flashbombs. This card works nicely with the swarm Poro Cannon + Flame Chomper can create, which levels Norra in the process. Although this card is expensive for swarm decks, it can use spell mana to be played earlier and really packs a punch.

Norra Lulu Deck

nicsmakesplays norra lulu

Deck code: CEDACAYECIBQMCQPDIWQKAIEBQOCOLJUAECAIEACAUFHRJQBAEBQEAQAAEAQKCUIAE

[See Norra Lulu deck details]

Here is my Norra Lulu deck. This deck can swarm out huge damage while leveling Norra in the process by playing created allies.

Lulu can buff your Flame Chompers + Norra, Yordle Captain and Sneezy Biggledust can buff your created allies to apply huge pressure, and then you can use the burn spell for game.

Awakening Impressions LoR Spoilers Day 2: Variety Pack

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here.

In this article, I’m going to go over today’s exciting new card reveals.

To see the rest of the Awakening reveals, head to our Spoiler page where they’ll be revealed each day until its official release.

If you’d like to see our expert breakdowns for the cards, check out the rest of our reveal articles.

Shadowblade Fanatic

shadowblade fanatic lor card

Shadowblade is a solid 3/2 Quick Attack unit that generates a Shadow Fiend if you’ve played an Equipment.. Due to Kayn’s deckbuilding, you are able to play him in any deck with Kayn since he’s a Cultist.

This may see play depending on if you need more Cultists to search Kayn or want early game Equipment payoff. His Quick Attack can also benefit greatly from Equipments making him a thread in the early game.

Mistfall

mistfall lor card

Mistfall is a 3 mana Landmark that draws an Equipment, refills a spell mana and grants a unit +1/0. Mistfall is a powerful card because it can help the consistency of Equipment based decks.

In past history, gaining mana has also shown to be a tier 1 effect such as Veiled Temple. On top of all this, it also buffs your equipped unit +1/0. This card is in Ionia so it potentially could be new routes to play decks such as Lee Sin.

Noxian Defector

noxian defector lor card

Noxian Defector has Quick Attack, grows his attack and is a Cultist. Noxian Defector gives you payoff for Equipping units early since it can grow it’s attack to theirs, essentially doubling the threat.

His Quick Attack makes him able to attack safely while pushing his huge stats. Noxian Defector is also a Cultist so he can be played with any deck with Kayn.

Gatalyst v1.0

gatalyst v1.0 lor ard

Gatalyst is essentially Funsmith in Equipment form. Gatalyst buffs all your spells and skills by 1 damage.

The unique thing about Gatalyst being an Equipment is if they kill it, it will go back to your hand. This allows you to reliably buff your spells/skills even if they have removal.

Loaded Vessel

loaded vessel lor card

Loaded Vessel is unique in that it’s both removal and a draw spell. Loaded Vessel deals 2 damage and then you draw fleeting cards next turn up to the damage you dealt.

Since Loaded Vessel is in Bilgewater, you can combine this with Kegs to draw more cards and deal more damage.

Hexbliterator

hexbliterator lor card

Hexbliterator deals 5 to a unit and if it kills it, it Obliterates it. This is useful at stopping powerful Last Breath effects as well as removing the ability for units to be reborned.

A perfect example of this is using Hexbliterator on Anivia. First off, Anivia will not turn into Eggnivia since it was Obliterated. Then, it also would remove Anivia from potentially being reborned by The Rekindler. This is a great example of how this card can see play in certain metas.

Silence and Suppress

silence and suppress lor card

For only 1 mana Silence and Suppress destroys an enemy’s Equipment and if it’s a follower it Silences it. This is great counterplay to the heaps of Equipment cards being released this set. The downside of killing an Equipment is it goes back to their hand.

This card being cheap is amazing to swing tempo in your favor since it will usually cost less than the Equipment they spent mana on. This card also Silences the unit on top of this if it’s a follower. This is particularly good because usually you want to stack Equipment on units with strong effects or keywords to maximize their value.

How to Play Gwen Illaoi

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here.

Today I’m going to go over my Gwen Illaoi deck.

As always, we’ll be covering the decks mulligans, matchups, and more.

To explore more decks created by the community, head to our Deck Library. To craft your own, head to our Deck Builder.

NicMakesPlays Gwen Illaoi (LoR Deck)

Deck Code: CEBQGBQFBQIBYBIGAYDAOHA6EMBQCBJCFAYQGAICAYCQCBQGCUAQCBIBAEAQCBIZ

[NicMakesPlays Gwen Illaoi deck details]

Goal of Deck and Mulligans

The goal of this deck is to use the Hallowed keyword to buff the Tentacles and allow them to put on huge pressure. The deck is also well rounded since it is packed with removal spells, and ways to refuel.

The expected turn to win the game is turn 7-8 by either outvaluing your opponent via Spawn + removal spells or going for game with Illaoi or Atrocity.

NicMakesPlays Gwen Illaoi (LoR Mulligan)

In this deck, you want to mulligan for early game spawn generators such as Watchful Idol, Sea’s Voice, Illaoi, and Tentacle Smash. You also want to mulligan for early game Hallowed Unit’s such as Boisterous Host and Phantom Butler.

For other matchups, you can keep things like Vile Feast for Aggro or Black Spear for MF/Viktor/Aphelios.

Watchful Idol / Hired Gun

Watchful Idol (LoR Card)Hired Gun (LoR Card)

Watchful Idol is the strongest start you can have in this deck. You are able to start spawning Tentacles early and beef them up for the mid game. This sets up turns 3-4 nicely for The Sea’s Voice and Illaoi.

Hired Gun is an amazing way to hold down the early game. Her 2|3 statline blocks 2|1’s such as Byrd and lets you nicely stabilize into turn 3. You can combine her Vulnerable with Gwen’s Quick Attack for easy kills later.

Boisterous Host / Phantom Butler

phantom butler lor card

Boisterous Host and Phantom Butler are your early game Hallowed units of the deck. You can trade with these units in the early game and then later reap the rewards of their Hallowed keywords.

You want to use the Hallowed keyword on your Tentacles because this also buffs Illaoi. Hallowed gives the Tentacles +1|0 and then Illaoi gains the Tentacles stats which effectively doubles the Hallowed buff and levels her easily.

Illaoi / Gwen

illaoi level 1 lor cardgwen level 1 lor card

Illaoi and Gwen are your Champions of the deck. Illaoi is one of your main win cons since she can copy the Tentacles stats, pushes for huge Overwhelm damage, and increases your Spawn count but 1 when leveled. You can give Hallowed to the Tentacle and then Illaoi copies the Tentacles stats effectively doubling the Hallowed buff.

Gwen also benefits greatly from the Hallowed buffs. She gains all the Hallowed buffs as well, drains giving you reach along with Illaoi’s Overwhelm, and can combine well with Hired Gun’s Vulnerable for easy kills.

Both of these cards can quickly gain huge attacks to go for game through combat or Atrocity.

Tentacle Smash / The Sea’s Voice

tentacle smash lor cardThe Sea's Voice (LoR Card)

Tentacle Smash and The Sea’s Voice are your Tentacle generators of the mid game. Tentacle Smash Spawns 3 and then strikes a unit. This is great at killing key enemy units or getting favorable trades where your Tentacles live and their unit dies such as against Annie.

If you open Watchful Idol it’s easy to get favorable trades with this card right away. The Sea’s Voice is a solid 3|3 that Spawns 1 and gives your Tentacles Overwhelm. In the early game, this helps grow your Tentacles, and in the late game, this helps push for game. This is particularly well with the Hallowed buff to make your Tentacles push huge damage with Overwhelm.

Vengeance / Black Spear

Vengeance (LoR Card)Black Spear (LoR Card)

Vengeance and Black Spear are two of your removal spells in the deck. One of the biggest perks of this version compared to the Bard version is the abundance of removal.

You can use Vengeance to kill huge opposing threats such as Illaoi and Kai’sa. You can use Black Spear to kill mid-game threats such as Miss Fortune, Aphelios and Viktor.

Good Matchups

This deck is great against Illaoi Bard and Kai’sa. You want to mulligan for early game Spawn generators and Hallowed units.

You can slowly put on the pressure with your units while growing your Tentacles, and then at crucial points in the mid-game remove their threats with Black Spear and Vengeance. Against Illaoi Bard you can also Atrocity for game and they have no removal in the deck to stop you.

Bad Matchups

This deck can be weak against Aggro but there are tons of ways to mitigate this. Hired Gun is great at killing Annie or trading with their 2|1’s in general. You want to mulligan for as many early game units as possible and Tentacle Smash to get favorable trades.

Gwen can heal you back in the mid game and get you out of burn range. When the timing is right you can swing with a huge Overwhelm unit for game and Aggro doesn’t have many ways to stop you.

Tech Choices

This deck can cut copies of Black Spear, Glimpse Beyond, or Riptide Sermon.

Ye Been Warned – This card acts as both removal and refuel. This card also combines well with Gwen’s Quick Attack.

Ye Been Warned (LoR Card)

Make It Rain– Make It Rain is a generally good card that particularly helps against Aggro

Make it Rain (LoR Card)

Undergrowth – Another Drain card that’s good removal and helps out the Aggro matchup

How to Play: Mono Evelyn

Hey everyone NicMakesPlays here.

Today I’m going to go over my Mono Evelynn deck.

This entire deck is centered around the new Champion Evelynn!

NicMakesPlays Mono Evelynn (LoR Deck)

Deck Code: CECQMBAHAENE23LZRIAQEBQFCIJQCBQHEIAQMDAZAEDAIGIBAMCAOO2MJ4AQCBAHG4

[See NicMakesPlays Mono Evelynn deck details]

Goal of Deck and Mulligans

The goal of this deck is to consistently summon Evelynn on turn 4 and have her snowball the game from there. On turn 5 you can play Voice of the Risen to buff your board/Husks or Solitude to give extra keywords to all your Husks. The expected turn to win the game around turns 7-8 with a huge board buffed from Husks and Voice of the Risen.

NicMakesPlays Mono Evelynn (LoR mulligan)

In this deck, you always want to mulligan for Evelynn and a Husk generator for turn 3. If you already have both of these cards you can mulligan for Voice of the Risen for turn 5.

Against Midrange you can mulligan for Scrying Sands to make use of the mana you bank on turn 1. You can also keep Rite of Calling + Dunekeeper and Aspiring Chronomancer to add consistency on seeing Evelynn.

Sultur / Vora

sultur lor card

Sultur and Vora are two of your generic Husk generators of the deck. Sultur is amazing since he is the only 2 drop Husk Generator. If you are able to summon Husks as early as turn 2 then the game can start spiraling out of control in your favor.

Vora is a 3 mana Husk generator. Vora has a solid 3|2 statline for a Husk generator and can make solid use of other Husks due to her stronger stats. The earlier you can start playing Husks the better since they will work towards allies dying to level Evelynn.

Domination / Solitude

domination lor cardsolitude lor card

Domination and Solitude both generate Husks and have bonus effects. Domination gives all your 1 cost allies +1/0. This may sound small at first but it adds up in a major way. All of your Husks now gain attack which gets transferred to the new units you play and Dunekeepers/Sand Soldiers are also buffed for aggro pressure as well.

Domination is also key because she comes out on turn 3 right before Evelynn, to curve into her on turn 4. Solitude costs 5 which comes after Evelynn but grants all 1 cost units a random keyword.

This is particularly strong because all the Husks keywords go to Evelynn so she can start gaining too many keywords to deal with. On top of this, Solitude can give you access to the Lfiesteal keyword which is not in the Husks pool, and grant Dunekeeper/Sand Soldiers additional keywords too.

Evelynn / Voice of the Risen

evelynn level 1 lor card

Voice of the Risen (LoR Card)

Evelynn is the star of the show in the deck and what the whole deck revolves around. You want to make sure on turn 3 you play a Husk generator so you can immediately level her when she’s played on turn 4. Evelynn comes down as a 5/6 (+0/1 from Husk) on turn 4 with bonus keywords and continues to generate keywords the rest of the game.

This is insane tempo on turn 4 and the goal of the deck is to ride out that tempo the rest of the game and win. Voice of the Risen is effortless to activate in this deck since Evelynn levels up on turn 4. Voice of the Risen buffs all your Husks to 2/1’s which gives all your units huge attack stats, on top of Voice of the Risen buffing them +2/0 as well.

Ancient Hourglass / Rite of Negation

Ancient Hourglass (LoR Card)Rite of Negation (LoR Card)

Ancient Hourglass and Rite of Negation protect Evelynn to make her virtually unkillable. Ancient Hourglass can be used on Evelynn to protect her from removal such as Vengeance. It also creates huge mana swings when people use 6+ mana to kill Evelynn and you protect her with a 2 mana card.

Rite of Negation costs a bit more but is also more versatile. On top of being able to protect Evelynn, Rite of Negation also stops burn spells and other key spells such as Rally.

Quicksand / The Absolver

Quicksand (LoR Card)The Absolver (LoR Card)

Quicksand and The Absolver swing the entire game in your favor when used at a good time. Quicksand helps answer other units with tons of keywords such as Evelynn and Kai’sa.

Once you are both set up the difference in the game can be as simple as having Quicksand for enemy threats and hoping they don’t have one back.

It’s extremely easy to gain The Absolver’s bonus effect in this deck due to Evelynn leveling on turn 4. The Absolver buffs your units and can great Evelynn Overwhelm to close the game with relative ease.

Good Matchups

Good matchups for this deck are Midrange/Control decks where you can spiral the game out of control with Husks. To win these matchups consistently you just want to mulligan for a Husk on 3, Evelynn on 4, and if you already have both then Voice of the Risen on 5.

Against Midrange decks such as Demacia, it’s nice to have Scrying Sands to weaken their Challengers in the early game. Against Control decks, it’s nice to have Ancient Hourglass to protect Evelynn from removal spells.

Bad Matchups

This deck is weak against Aggro. To beat Aggro you want to make sure you have early game blockers such as Dunekeeper, Aspiring Chronomancer, and Sultur.

You can focus on keeping board control and also slowly working towards Evelynn. Scrying Sands also helps in the early game to gain a favorable trade and gain board control for only 1 mana.

Tech Choices

This deck can cut copies of Ruin Runner and The Absolver

Voidling – This card is great at Evolving quickly and also gets buffed by The Domination and Solitude.

voidling lor card

Supercharge – This card gives you another way to gain Overwhelm and Spellshield reliably.

supercharge lor card

Void Abomination – This card gives you another twin con for your opponent to deal with or you win the game

void abomination lor card
